π Returning Home: Rules for Importing Animals into Ukraine
Traveling with a pet is always an adventure. But to prevent your return home from turning into a border quest, let's figure out what you need to do to import a cat or dog into Ukraine πΊπ¦πβπ¦Ί
π What's absolutely necessary?
You'll be strictly questioned at the border, but if you have everything ready, you'll be through in a minute. Here's the basic set:
β
ISO-standard microchip β you can't do without it. Make sure scanners can read your chip.
β
International pet passport β with all vaccination records, stamps, and signatures.
β
Rabies vaccination β administered no earlier than 21 days before entry and no later than 12 months before. This means the vaccination must be valid upon return.
β
Rabies antibody titers (β₯ 0.5 IU/ml) - are not always required, but in some cases they won't let you in. It's best to check in advance!
β
Parasite treatment - (worms, fleas, ticks). They usually ask for confirmation that everything has been done on time.
β
Clinically healthy animal - this is checked visually. If the pet is active and happy, there won't be any problems.
β
Carrier - required for small animals; for larger animals, a harness or muzzle is optional.
β¨Important note
Depending on the country you're returning from, requirements may vary slightly. In some places, a passport and vaccinations are sufficient, while in others, you'll also need a passport.
Therefore, it's best to double-check the requirements for your specific itineraryβthat way, there will be no surprises at the border π
